Newsletter March 2010
With so much misinformation being circulated, this Newsletter is being sent to all members to explain the changes that will take place in the summer for next season. Wey Valley with 600 members is now a 6 rink club, and members will have noticed little use of the top rinks for leagues, and that most visiting clubs can only bring 6 rinks.

The Management Council on your behalf have to run the site as a business, and to enable us to keep subscriptions and general costs as low as possible, we have to raise income from the extension.

Various sporting alternatives were considered and after careful consideration the Management Council decided it would be most beneficial for the extension to remain within the bowls fraternity.

We have, there-fore, signed an Agreement with Surrey County Short Mat Bowling Association (SSM) for them to have exclusive use of the extension.

They will install 10 short mats that will be used by bowlers registered with the SCSMBA.

It will be used in the winter for Monday and Wednesday night inter club leagues, and at weekends for inter county games, but could be used at other times for Charity events, etc.

Wey Valley (WV) will not have a short mat section and will not be involved in the running of the area.
WV and SSM members will only be permitted use of their respective designated bowling areas.

Conversion Works
Starting on May 8th the carpet and underlay of the extension will be removed, ditches will be filled in and an 8ft high stud courtesy wall will be built between the existing church pews, (separating WV and SSM areas) leaving both ends open for access, this will allow free passage to the emergency exits by rink 9.

The Disabled access will become the entrance for SSM players, and they will park on right hand side of the building
The toilets will be available to WV and SSM players.
SSM players do not require any changing facilities, so will not be using WV changing areas.

We will move all the furniture away from Rink 6’s pathway and then decide how much screening we need
(if any) to allow SSM bowlers to use the Bar and Catering facilities.

In conclusion, the Management Council trust that present Wey Valley members will warmly welcome members of the SCSMBA to their new venue and recognize this new development as the way forward in the survival of Wey Valley as a bowls club and its endeavour to make it a “Centre of Excellence” for both SSM and WV members.

National / County / Club Competitions
With only 6 rinks, much stricter rules will be applied to National, County and Club competition bookings., Men’s Singles must be played Tuesday or Friday evenings at 8.30 (at a reduced rate) unless other rink space is available and, depending on league applications, no National bookings will be allowed on Thursday Evenings during the Men’s League. League cancellations will be limited.
Important Reminder: No entries may be made in rink book without authorisation of a Green Steward or member of the Management Council .

A big thank you to Peter Gibbs and all the players who have helped in fulfilling the 200 re-arranged league matches postponed this season so far, mostly due to the weather.

Don't forget latest news on Web Site www.weyvalleyibc.co.uk

Green Carpet
Andy Hatto, Alan Tingay and Paul Coleman have been conducting a major study regarding changing the carpet and underlay on the main rink.
We have spoken to or had feed back from many indoor bowling clubs: East Dorset, Worthing Field Place, Foxhill, Ely, Kings Thorpe and Mid Lothian.
All clubs, whether the installations are by Dales or Greenguage, have ended up with much slower greens running at around 16 seconds. Wey Valley at the moment is running at about 17.5 seconds, with a few runs on the left hand side of rinks when bowling away from the bar.
The Management Council have, therefore, decided to keep the existing carpet and underlay for at least another year.
We will laser check the level of the green, then at the end of the season lift the carpet, inspect the underlay and boards, renew and strengthen the grippers, then re-lay and stretch the carpet.
This will mean that summer bowling might be disturbed depending on time scales. Please monitor the notice board.

Fees
With the added income from Short Mat the Management Council confirm that there will be no increase in any fees for next season.
Current Fees: Membership £65; Rink Fee [2hr session] £2.80;
National/County/ Club Competitions [4hr session] £3.50.
Rink Usage
The Monday 2.30pm session will be used for visually impaired bowlers and casual bowling - this sessionmay not be used for any otherpurpose.

We will re-introduce the 8.30pm sessions on Tuesday’s and Friday’s and, if used for new leagues or Nationals, will be at £2.00 per session.
We expect all leagues to remain the same next season (this year we have only ever used 6 rinks) and we hope that more players will come forward to captain a team.

Helpers
We are indebted to so many people who help run the club, namely Green Stewards, Captains, Officers, Nicky and Jan for once again supplying superb food, and Robert with his Bar /Green Steward duties, even staying late into the evening changing all the faulty lights on the green! Robert will also build the courtesy wall for the extension before going on summer leave.
Wanted
John Tucker is to retire as Company Treasurer this year.
We are looking for a treasurer, to work 2 mornings a week during the season, covering: Book-keeping, Banking, VAT returns and Wages. Must be computer literate as returns must now be made on line.

Dress Code With manufacturers selling more shirts (tops) with coloured panels. The Council have agreed that Bowling Shirts /Tops (with collars) that are predominantlywhite may be worn for all games except for club matches which must be White only
